| biography:
| Writer, born in Priorau, EC Germany. He was founder of the linguistic and literary society Teutschgesinnte Genossenschaft. His works include novels, notably Die Adriatische Rosemund (1645) and Simson (1679), literary treatises including Hochdeutscher Helikon (1640), and poems and translations. One of the leading writers of the Baroque, his works are characterized by virtuosity and command of a highly varied style, as well as autobiographical elements. He was ennobled in 1653 but died impoverished. |
