| Classical scholar and Lutheran theologian, born in Bamberg, SEC Germany. A friend of Melanchthon, he embraced the Reformation at Wittenberg in 1521, and helped to formulate the Augsburg Confession of 1530. He was professor of Greek and Latin at Tübingen (1535) and Leipzig (from 1541). |
