| biography:
| Chemist, born in Utrecht, W Netherlands. He started a business in laboratory apparatus in Delft in 1830. He invented the apparatus called after him for the continuous and automatic production of gases such as carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and hydrogen sulphide. A representation of it appears in the arms of the Dutch Chemical Society. He also invented a method of fixing carbon and pastel drawings. |
