| biography:
| Writer, born in Berlin, Germany. After training as a painter, he studied philosophy and law and later practised as a lawyer, defending members of the Rote Armee Fraktion terrorist group, notably Andreas Baader. His writing, which includes short stories, novels, radio plays, and translations, is often satirical and provocative, especially in its depiction of the middle classes in Berlin as a symbol of decadence. He uses this image in his populist novel Die Insel. Erzählungen aus dem Bärenauge (1968). Since then his style has become more traditional as a vehicle for his commentaries on politics and society. |
