| Writer, born in Paris, France. During his 20s the onset of paralysis forced him to take up writing for a living, and he produced many sonnets, madrigals, songs, epistles, and satires. He is best known for his realistic novel, Le Roman comique (1651–7, The Comic Novel). In 1652 he married Françoise d'Aubigné (later, Madame de Maintenon). |
