| Costumier, born in Bourn, Lincolnshire, EC England, UK. A book-keeper, he went to Paris in 1845, and worked in a fashion accessories shop. He established a ladies' tailors in 1858, and gained the patronage of Empress Eugénie. The first to show a collection in advance and to use female models, he introduced the bustle, and is especially known for his elegant crinolined gowns. |
