| biography:
| Art connoisseur and educator, born in New York City, New York, USA. He studied at Harvard (1900 BA), and joined the family investment firm, Goldman, Sachs & Co (1904–14). He abandoned banking and joined the Fogg Art Museum, an adjunct of Harvard, as an assistant director (1915–44). He taught at Harvard (1917–48) and was instrumental in building the new Fogg Museum (1928). He became known for his seminars on museum administration and for his publications on art. |
