| Mathematical logician, born in Long Branch, New Jersey, USA. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences, and held a teaching post at Stanford University (1964). Recipient of the Bocher Prize (1964) and National Medal of Science (1967), he included among his specialities axiomatic set theory, harmonic analysis, and partial differential equations. |
