| Novelist, born in Rennes, NW France. He studied law, worked in a bank, then became proof-reader at the Nouvelliste, when he published his first writing in the Revue de Paris. Les Mystères de Londres (1884) was the first of many successful popular novels which followed, several with a political background. His characters became legendary, such as Le Bossu (1858) and Lagardère, frequently filmed. |
