| Lawyer, born in Racine, Wisconsin, USA. He was the founder in 1905 of a club for business and professional men, using the name Rotary (because the meetings took place at each member's office in turn). This grew into the worldwide organization, Rotary International, whose motto ‘Service above Self’ embodies the ideals of all service clubs. Women were admitted for the first time in 1987. |
