| biography:
| Jockey, born in Newbridge, Galway, W Ireland. He was champion jockey (1974–7, 1986, 1988-91, 1993, 1996), and won the Derby in 1975, 1982, and 1990. He won the Oaks twice, and the St Leger four times. He also has a particularly good record in France, winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 1980, 1985, 1986, and 1987. |
