| Dancer, born in Paris, France. He was the youngest dancer ever accepted into the Paris Opéra Ballet (at the age of 15), and at 17 won top honours at the Varna international competition. In 1980 he reached the rank of étoile, and he has since been a guest performer with various companies around the world. In 1988 he became artistic director of Ballet de Nancy. He became director of dance (1989–95) for the Paris Opéra Ballet and brought the company critical acclaim by staging a wide range of work from the 19th-c classical ballet repertoire to choreography by Merce Cunningham and Twyla Tharp. |
