| Seneca anthropologist and museum director, born in Cattaraugus, New York, USA. A Harvard-trained anthropologist, he was appointed state archaeologist for the New York State Museum (1906–25). He helped found the American Indian Magazine (1911–16) and in 1925 was named director of the Rochester Museum of Arts and Sciences. He wrote extensively about the Iroquois. |
