| Writer, poet, and playwright, born in Växjö, S Sweden. He was the most significant figure in Swedish literature in the first half of the 20th-c, and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature (1951) for his novel Barabbas. His first best seller was the novel Dvärgen (1944, The Dwarf), and The Marriage Feast (1973) contains English translations of his short stories. |
