| biography:
| Dancer and actress, born in Sevilla, SW Spain. While still an adolescent she participated in the Spanish Ballet of Montemar, together with Carmen Sevilla and Ana Emeralda. She attracted the attention of Florián Rey, who was searching for a principal actress for Brindis a Manolete (1948), and so began her career in films before she was 20. During the 1950s she was not a hugely popular actress but became a folkloric icon. Among her films are Debla, la virgen gitana (1950, director Ramón Torrado), Las lavanderas de Portugal (1957, director Pierre Gaspard-Huit and Ramón Torrado), ¿Dónde vas, Alfonso XII? (director Luis César Amadori), and Viva/Muera Don Juan (1977, director Tomás Aznar). |
