| Writer of children's stories, born in Queensland, NE Australia. She moved to England at 19, and worked as an actress. Her first novel, Mary Poppins (1934), was an international success, and was later adapted for the popular motion picture of the same name (1964). She began a literary career, her later children's novels including Friend Monkey (1971), About Sleeping Beauty (1975), and Two Pairs of Shoes (1980). |
