| Architect and designer, born in London, UK. He studied at the Royal Academy, was superintendent of works for the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London, and director of decoration for the Crystal Palace (1852). He also designed St James's Hall in London. He wrote a monumental Grammar of Ornament (1856), magnificently illustrated with decorative patterns and motifs from many cultures and periods. |
