| Writer, born in Rickenbach, near Olten, N Switzerland. The brother of Silja Walter, he worked as an editor for his father's publishing house in Olten before he was made head of a publisher's in Darmstadt. He is best known for his novels Der Stumme (1959) and Herr Tourel (1962), which are set in Switzerland and show his facility for characterization and for realistic exploration of personal relationships in modern society. Among other works is the play Elio oder Eine fröhliche Gesellschaft (1965). |
