| biography:
| Seminole Indian leader, born in Georgia, USA. Although not a chief, he took the lead in opposing all efforts to remove the Seminole from their Florida homeland. His warriors' killing of a US agent in 1835 touched off the second Seminole War, and he led his people in actively resisting the Federal forces. He was seized under a flag of truce and imprisoned in Fort Moultrie, South Carolina, where he died. |
