| Actress, born in Tokyo, Japan. Brought up in the USA, she made her stage debut in 1933, and joined Warner Brothers (1935–42). She received Best Supporting Actress nominations for her performances in Gone With the Wind (1939) and Hold Back The Dawn (1941). She won Oscars for To Each His Own (1946) and The Heiress (1949). She later played many television roles, and published an autobiography, Every Frenchman Has One (1963). |
