| Footballer, born in Enugu, Nigeria. At age 16, while on holiday in Germany, he tried out for fourth division Borussia Neunkirchen and was quickly signed up. The midfielder moved to German first division club Eintracht Frankfurt in 1992, signing as a professional the following season. As part of the Nigerian team, known as the ‘Super Eagles’, his honours include the African Cup of Nations and an Olympic gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Games. He joined Istanbul club Fenerbahce in 1996 for £1 million, and transferred to Paris St Germain in the summer of 1998 for £9 million. He was a member of Nigeria's national squad in the 1994, 1998, and 2002 FIFA World Cup finals. In 2002 he joined English premiership club, Bolton Wanderers, on a free transfer. |
