| Art historian, born in Vienna, Austria. He emigrated with his family to the USA (1891), and studied at Harvard (1909–12), the American Academy of Rome (1912–14), and the University of Vienna (1914 PhD). He divided his time between New York City and Florence, Italy, taught at New York University (1923–60), and specialized in Italian Renaissance art. |
