| Actress and stage director, born in Barcelona, NE Spain. She began her professional career at 12, and at 24 she co-founded the Nuria Espert Theatre Company. She has played the title role in Hamlet, and both Prospero and Ariel in the same production of The Tempest. Other productions include Brecht's The Good Woman of Setzuan, Wilde's Salomé, Jean Genet's The Maids, F García Lorca's Yerma, and Salvador Espriu's Una altra Fedra, si us plau. Appearing as an actress in productions all over the world, she also directed a revival of Lorca's The House of Bernarda Alba in London (1986), and Puccini's Madame Butterfly for Scottish Opera. In 1992 she returned to Barcelona to direct Euripides' Medea. |
