In 1895 he moved to Melbourne to work on a local newspaper with his brother Lionel, and in 1901 they joined the weekly Sydney Bulletin, where Lindsay was chief cartoonist for many years. In 1912 he settled in Springwood in the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales, where he spent most of the rest of his life. His home there is now a gallery and museum housing much of his work. A prolific artist, he produced vigorous drawings, etchings, oil paintings, and watercolours. He also wrote poems, novels, and the children's book The Magic Pudding (1918), now regarded as an Australian classic. |
