| biography:
| Playwright, born in London, UK. He worked in a bank and served in the Intelligence Corps in World War 2 before becoming an adult education lecturer. The success of A Resounding Tinkle, a zany disruption of middle-class normality, in a competition organized by The Observer in 1957 brought him to prominence. His absurdist approach is also seen in One-Way Pendulum (1959). Written during the brief popularity of the Theatre of the Absurd in Britain, his work belongs to a comic tradition illustrated by The Goon Show and Monty Python. |
