| Painter, born in Paris, France. He was the first of a family of painters and decorators to the French court in the late 17th-c and 18th-c. He decorated the Invalides, the palaces of the Tuileries, the Louvre, and Versailles, and was appointed director of the Royal Academy in Paris in 1695. He worked for the Gobelin tapestry factory from 1674. |
