Her salon attracted the aristocracy as well as leading literary and political figures, and the most respectable women sent their children to her to acquire taste, style, and manners. Her lovers included the great Condé, and the Duc de La Rochefoucauld. She bore two sons, one of whom, brought up in ignorance of his mother, conceived a passion for her; when informed of their relationship, he committed suicide. |
