| biography:
| Explorer and geologist, born in Småland, S Sweden, the nephew of Baron Nils Nordenskjöld. He accompanied expeditions to Patagonia, Klondike, Alaska, and Greenland. In 1901 he led a Swedish party on Antarctic to the Antarctic Peninsula area; Antarctic was crushed by ice, but they were rescued by the Uruguay. In 1920–1 he explored the Andes. He was appointed professor of geography at Gothenburg University in 1905, and principal of Gothenburg University Business School in 1923. |
