| biography:
| Writer, born in Krommenie, W Netherlands. He studied philosophy and classical languages and was an editor of Revisor. He made his debut in 1976 with the collected stories Oud-Zuid (The Old South), in which he describes the day-to-day occurrences of his main characters. Very much aware of the postmodernist dilemma between describing reality and the restrictions imposed by language, this dilemma is frequently expressed throughout his work. In addition, he wrote children's books and translated Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland for which he received much critical acclaim. |
