| Bibliographer and scholar, born in Seville, SW Spain, whose private library is reputed to have contained over 30 000 volumes. His Bibliotheca hispana vetus (1672) is the first serious attempt to list all books written in Spain from Roman times up to 1500; his posthumous Bibliotheca hispana nova (1696) brings the work up to 1670. His work was later revised by Pérez Bayer (1783–8). |
