| Architect, born in Stralsund, NE Germany. In 1636 he moved to Stockholm, where he became the most eminent architect during a period of affluence and expansion. He was appointed royal architect in 1646, and was city architect in Stockholm from 1661. His major works include Kalmar Cathedral (started 1660), the Caroline Mausoleum in Riddarholm Church (1671), and, most notably, the palace of Drottningholm on Mälaren, completed by his son. |
