| Golfer, born in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, SE England, UK. He had early successes in winning the Professional Golf Association championships in 1978, 1980, and 1981, and in 1987 won the Open Championship at Muirfield, UK, in appalling conditions, winning again in 1990 and 1992. In 1989 he won the US Masters, successfully defended his title in 1990, and won it again in 1996. His 23 Ryder Cup wins (1977–97) are a record. |
