| biography:
| Athenian soldier. During the Peloponnesian Wars (431–404 BC) he captured Anacterium (425 BC) and helped Cleon to reduce Sphacteria, but failed to conquer Boeotia the next year. In 413 BC, having been sent to Sicily to the relief of Nicias, he was captured by the Syracusans and put to death. |
