| biography:
| Cardinal and philospher, born in Cusa, W Germany. He studied at Heidelberg and Padua, and took a prominent part in the Council of Basel. Ordained in 1440, he became a cardinal in 1448, and as papal legate visited Constantinople to promote the union of the Eastern and Western Churches. A Renaissance scientist in advance of his time, he wrote on astronomy, mathematics, philosophy, and biology. |
