| Oceanographer, born in Queenstown, Alberta, Canada. He was a scientist at the Pacific Oceanographic Group in Canada (1954–62) before going to the USA to join the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (1962). He was concurrently a professor at Harvard (1968–86). He made major contributions to the fluid dynamics of ocean circulation. |
