| Scholar, born in Benevento, Campania, SW Italy. He was Pietro Aretino's secretary but later on argued with him. He wrote satirical poems that verged on the obscene (Il petrarchista, 1539; La Priapea, 1541; Rime, 1548). Accused of heresy, he was arrested in 1568 and sentenced to hanging by the Rome Inquisition. |
