| Novelist, born in Rotterdam, W Netherlands. She studied Dutch language and literature, and made her debut in 1987 with Tine of de dalen waar het leven woont (Tine or the Abysses of Life), the fictitious diary of the wife of Multatuli. In her work, the main characters are women who struggle to find their identity in a hostile society. Her prose is usually set against a historical background and contains references to classical literature and mythology. |
