| biography:
| Cricketer, born in Bhopal, C India. He studied at Oxford, played cricket with Worcester, and was first capped by England on the controversial ‘bodyline’ tour of Australia under D R Jardine (1932–3), where he made a century on his first Test appearance. After World War 2 he captained India on their visit to England in 1946. He made seven Test centuries in all, and retired due to ill health. |
