| Poet, born in Hims, Syria. He studied at a Russian school before emigrating to the USA in 1905. Settling in New York City, he worked as a journalist and was a member of the Pen Bond, a group of noted Arab emigré writers. Offended by American materialism, he longed for his homeland. His poems were collected and published as Al-Arwah, al-Ha'ira (1946, trans Troubled Spirits). |
