| biography:
| Religious leader, the founder of Sikhism, born at Talwandi, near Lahore, NE Pakistan (formerly India). A Hindu by birth, he left his home at around the age of 30, and spent 20 years travelling widely in search of spiritual truth. He eventually settled in Kartarpur, in the Punjab, where he attracted many followers. He was a revolutionary in his thought, denouncing many contemporary religious practices as idolatrous, speaking out against caste and discriminatory rituals, and preaching equality for all. His doctrine was set out later in the Adi-Granth. |
