| biography:
| Brewer, born in Taihape, New Zealand. He entered the family trade of brewing in 1919. Although working at a traditional craft he was also extremely inventive. In 1926 he built the third short-wave transmitter in the world, and established the first radio link between New Zealand and England. In 1956 he revolutionized the industry by patenting the first major innovation in brewing since the 16th-c, the continuous fermentation process. In the same year he became the first brewer outside the USA to win the Schwarz Award of the American Master Brewers, and in 1992 Kiwi Lager - a beer based on his research and recipes - was proclaimed Best Beer in the World at the international awards in England. |
