| Businessman, born in Egypt. He studied at Alexandria University, and made rapid progress in the international business world, becoming owner of the Ritz Hotel in Paris in 1979, and of Harrods in London in 1985, and one of the world's wealthiest men. One of his children, Dodi (1955–97), received worldwide publicity in 1997 when the press discovered his relationship with Princess Diana. A graduate of Sandhurst Military Academy, he briefly became a film producer, but was more renowned for his flamboyant lifestyle. He was killed along with Diana in a car accident in Paris while trying to escape the attentions of paparazzi. |
