| Painter, born in Toronto, Canada. Born to American parents, she studied at the Museum of Modern Art, New York (1937–41) and at the State University of Iowa (1943–9). Based in New York and California, by 1955 she was a feminist abstract expressionist and collagist, and co-founded the Feminist Art Program in California (1972–5) with Judy Chicago. She was also a founder of Womanhouse (1972), a female art environment in California. |
