| biography:
| Catalan painter, born in Felanitx, Mallorca, Spain. He has lived and worked in New York, Cologne, and Paris. From the beginning of 1980 his pictures acquired an animalistic and violent aspect. He also produced still-life works and scenes of the city during its quiet hours, always using a variety of materials in the same picture and moving easily from one subject to another without restricting himself to a single style. His works focus on biblical themes, and also with the interiors of cinemas or museums. In 1986 he was awarded a prize at the Nacional de Artes Plásticas, and in 1989 he held an exhibition in the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York. His most recent paintings were finished in Mallorca. Among his best known works are Le buffet (Bruno Bischofberger Gallery, Zurich, 1983), Bibliotheque à la mer (Bruno Bishofberger Gallery, Zurich, 1984), Marine Soup (from the artist's collection, Palma de Mallorca, 1984), and Big Spanish Dinner (Museo Español de Arte Contemporaneo, Madrid, 1985). |
