| biography:
| Psychiatrist, born in Aurum, Nevada, USA. He conducted experiments in hypnosis under psychologist Clark Hull at the University of Wisconsin, where he received his MD (1925). He carried on research at the State Hospital (Worcester, MA) and the General Hospital (Wayne Co, MI) and taught at Wayne State University (1934–48). In 1979 he entered private practice in Phoenix, Arizona. He founded the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (1957) and became the nation's best-known practitioner of hypnotherapy. |
