| Astronomer and mathematician, born in Ostrolenka, NEC Poland. He studied at Warsaw and Rostov-on-Don universities, worked in the State Astrophysical Institute (1922–30), then moved to Leningrad University, where he became director of the Leningrad Astronomical Institute in 1942. He is best known for his work on celestial mechanics and theoretical astronomy. |
