| Brewer, born in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, C England, UK. He entered the family business (founded by his grandfather, William Bass, in 1777), which he expanded considerably. He helped to improve the lot of working people both as employer and as Liberal MP (1848–83). His son, Michael Arthur Bass (1837–1909), became Baron Burton in 1886. |
