| British missionary and political activist. He served in a London parish and as chaplain in India (1935–9), where he collaborated with the Communists. Invalided out of the RAF in 1941, he served in various missions in South Africa (1943–50). No longer associating with Communists, he exposed the atrocities in the Bethal farming area and in the Transvaal, defended the Basutos against wrongful arrest, and brought the case of the dispossessed Herero tribe before the UN. |
