| biography:
| Composer, born in Creuzburg, C Germany. He studied in Torgau, Frankfurt an der Oder, and Zerbst, and became court organist and (from 1604) Kapellmeister at the court of Wolfenbüttel. As well as being one of the most prolific composers of his time (especially of church music), he wrote an important treatise, Syntagma musicum (1614–20). |
