| US film actor and producer, born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA, the son of Kirk Douglas. He studied at the University of California, and achieved recognition in the television police series The Streets of San Francisco (1972–5), but left to co-produce One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), which won five Academy Awards, including one for Best Picture. He starred in and produced Romancing the Stone (1984), and won a Best Actor Oscar for his performance in Wall Street (1987). Other acting roles include Fatal Attraction (1987), The American President (1995), and A Perfect Murder (1998). Later films include Traffic (2000), in which he co-starred with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones (married 2000), and Don't Say A Word (2001). |
